Sacred Songs, consists of 14 brand new compositions and has a running-time of 70 minutes. Genre-wise, this is singer-songwriter in the style of a Damien Rice or a Leonard Cohen, perhaps, but lyrically it's closer to mystical poet William Blake.The mood is reflective, intense and yet gentle, the music beautiful and heart-opening and the poetic lyrics passionate and sacred. This album arrives only a few months after Asher's last offering, O Great Spirit and he continues with his rich vein of song-writing here. The overall impression, musically, is of piano, voice and cello, conveying a channeled sense of higher love and remembered Self. There is a mythic theme running throughout of the sacrifice of love for a higher truth, with personal overtones... a kind of latter-day Holy Grail mythology coming to life in reality, and depicted poetically in the songs. But having said all of that, more than anything this is just such beautiful music to chill to!
